The time of year where simply showing up to the office is more than enough is finally here! I'm sure those who are committed to working full steam ahead up to Christmas Eve would disagree, but to me and my more amicable colleagues it is annual "that's a January me problem" time of year and it is in full swing. Which of course means it is time for entertaining conversations, recently an entire day was spent planning a birthday party with no detail spared on food or decorations, but a recurring theme lately has been personal colour analysis so I thought it was about time I saw what all the fuss was about.
There are all sorts of responses to this online, rave reviews about how it will save money when shopping, build confidence because the colours compliment people better, and how an outfit will all but assemble itself from a wardrobe which has been refined by a personal colour analysis. It all feels very serious, so I decided to run a quick question and answer session to see what my results would be. The first time I ran it, I was asked which colours suited me better which I found an odd question because the aim of running a personal colour analysis is to find that out so it is highly unlikely that I will have that answer ready.
However, I rewrote the initial prompt with a bit more rigour and then I was able to carry out my own analysis using the below:
"Run a self-guided colour analysis for myself, with no colour swatches or uploading of photos, run this as steps in a question and answer format (including hair colour, skin tone, etc.) providing options for each. Ask one section at a time and I will provide the answers. The result should be the season and the sub-type."
One thing I will say is that even with this method, there is a possibility of bias creeping in. With all the previous discussions I had been part of regarding a personal colour analysis I was already aware of which seasons held the colours I typically tend to wear, although the sub-types were a whole new world to me. A part of me wonders that if I hadn't known where certain colours fell, would I have answered all of the questions in the same way? The questions about eye colour and natural hair colour are pretty set in stone, but those which are a bit more subjective may be more debatable. Did I answer that I was a bit paler than I may be because subconsciously I knew that a shade of blue that I quite like is included in a cooler toned palette. I don't think I did at the time, but looking at the resulting colour palette I started to think that maybe this system isn't infallible.
Confidence is key in life so if a change of, or a more refined, wardrobe can improve that then I am all for it. But one thing I will never stop preaching is that confidence comes from within. If wearing a certain colour or outfit makes you feel good wear it. If you believe that you look good, that confidence will shine through and you will look even more fantastic. If you want to wear a feather boa on a bus, do it! We should each wear whatever makes us feel most fabulous, don't limit yourself to suit the results of a trend.
